Popular with cyclists and part of stage 1 of the 2014 Tour de France is Kidstones Pass. It climbs up from Buckden, through the small village of Cray, past Buckden Pike to the east and Kidstones Scar before dropping into Bishopdale and on to Wensleydale. The top of the pass offers spectacular views across Upper Wharfedale.
Last weekend, as we headed over the pass on our way to Hawes we paused for a moment to admire the scene. It was spectacular. A dense pillow of cotton wool like cloud sat across the snow dusted Horse Head and Kirk Gill Moors to the south of the Valley. A fine drizzly haze moved across the valley floor. The sun, breaking through the clouds, lit patches of the dry stone walled fields that spread across the classically stepped limestone landscape of the area.
